Supporting and Strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and Families
The Moorditch Gurlongga Association Inc. (MGA) is an Aboriginal organisation providing a range of services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the Southeast metropolitan region of Perth. Our Mission is to provide pathways to wellness, wellbeing and worth through professional, culturally based education, early childhood, housing and community services.
What We Do
Today MGA (trading as Coolabaroo) provides a range of services to people from all walks of life and cultures although our focus is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We do this by providing a suite of wrap around services through the following programs:

Our Journey So Far

It was identified during home visits from the Department of Health and Aboriginal Health Worker and Community Nurse, that an Aboriginal Grandmother was caring for up to 13 grandchildren with many under 5 years of age, as their parents were studying at Thornlie TAFE. This understanding leads to the formation of Moorditch Gurlongga Association Inc. in 1985 the following representatives
- Aboriginal Health Worker;
- A non-Aboriginal nurse from Community Health;
- Aboriginal students attending Thornlie TAFE; and
- Aboriginal community members.

Coolabaroo Neighbourhood Centre (CNC) was established to provide family support and day care for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the South East Metropolitain corridor of Perth, WA. The services provided include an early childhood education and care service, before school care, after school care and vacation care.

Coolabaroo Housing Service (CHS) is funded under the joint Commonwealth / State Supported Accommodation Assistance Program. The overall aim of National Housing and Homelessness Agreement (NHHA) is to provide transitional supported accommodation and related support services to help homeless people achieve the maximum possible level of self reliance and independence.

Over the past five years MGA has continued to increase the service provision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, which has be the establishment of the following additional services. Season to Season Lawn Mowing and an established Partnering Agreement with Wungening Aboriginal Corporation.
